Reflections on Singapore’s First Virtual Maritime Tech Conference (VMTC)

March through June each year brings conference season to Singapore and with it a wealth of valuable new information is injected into the maritime industry. In 2020, however, maritime professionals were resigned to seek other ways of networking and exploring solutions to the commercial challenges they are looking to solve.

Recognizing this void and the impact it could have on the industry that relies principally on human interaction and networking for the exchange of ideas, Klaveness Digital reached out to the Singaporean Government and industry partners to host a Virtual Maritime Tech Conference (VMTC). Quite possibly the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region.

With many companies now elevating the importance of digitization when it comes to maritime logistics, the theme of the conference was how to collaborate via digital ecosystems and provide end users with seamless commercial solutions. The theme was reflected consistently throughout the conference and presenters demonstrated examples of how their respective platforms and services can integrate with others to provide a cumulative solution.

The VMTC set out to breathe life into the maritime tech sector and fuel collaboration. Local tech start-ups were given a platform to generate new business opportunities and the 400+ participants took away inspiration and tools to help accelerate their own journey of digital transformation. In addition, the conference proudly raised over $3,000 (SGD) for Mission to Seafarers.

Klaveness Digital wishes to extend a big thank you to all sponsors, co-organizers, exhibitors, public sector supporters and of course to all participants that made an up a energetic ‘digital’ audience throughout the presentations and during the networking session
